Ice Cream

All this week I thought I would do a little series on some Summer Favorites! Today I chose "Ice Cream". Tomorrow we will look at Grilling, so stay tuned.

Who would have known it?  National Ice Cream Day (July 16th)We all scream for ice cream in July! In 1984, former President Ronald Reagan decided July was to be “National Ice Cream Month,” and the third Sunday, which is July 19th this year, to be“National Ice Cream Day.” This holiday is especially great for food establishments. If your business doesn’t sell food, you can still take advantage of the holiday:
  • Have an ice cream sundae party at your business and show the fun on social media.  Your delicious masterpieces are a perfect photo sharing opportunity. You can also bring in ice cream from a local store and give a shout out to business in the pictures you share by tagging them in it. This increases the reach of your post to engage with their customers.
  • Host a post ice cream sundae workout at your fitness center the next day (July 17th) to work off those delicious calories.
If your business does sell food, host a sale or promotion on National Ice Cream Day to show your love for the frozen treat. You can also feature special limited-edition flavors in honor of the month, or offer exclusive toppings and novelties.

Our church is celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 30, 2017. Click here for more information: http://restorationchurchintl.org/ice-cream-social

So invite a friend and grab your favorite topping to share and come see us. For directions click here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/''/restorationchurchintl.org/@39.7119771,-80.1212548,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x88357b719b08b73f:0xb6cc49c5195fb85c!2m2!1d-80.0512148!2d39.7119981
So this got me wondering. Who created ice cream? "Cream Ice," as it was called, appeared regularly at the table of Charles I during the 17th century. France was introduced to similar frozen desserts in 1553 by the Italian Catherine de Medici when she became the wife of Henry II of France. It wasn't until 1660 that ice cream was made available to the general public.

So we have royalty to thank for this wonderful favorite of mine. Only makes sense to me! See you on Sunday the 30th? Besides what kind of school do you go to if your ice cream?.......Sundae School :)

Truth or consequences?

7/14/2017

God helps those that help themselves is not in scripture. We all have heard it but it is not in there. If you want to give credit to whom credit is due then look no further than Ben Franklin. There are so many sayings that we think are in the Bible and they are not. Here's another one, "Money is the root of all evil". Nope, it's not in there either. Check out the scripture for yourself. It is the (love) of money that's the root.
Picture
1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV) "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

We have the opportunity everyday to chose between truth or consequences. More times than not we chose the consequences because we are too busy to get our face in the book. We chose Facebook instead getting our face in the Book.
John 8:32 (KJV) "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Once again its not the truth that sets us free, it is the truth that we know that sets us free. Today determine to know truth. Meditate on truth. Get in the Word of God and learn for yourself what the Bible says. Then the choice...or the consequences are up to you.

God has the whole world in His hands so since you and I have a free hand let's use it to reach out to others--even if it means reaching down.

How can we help people that don't have the skills to help themselves? I know we can pray. You're right. We can pray. But we also need to take it a step further and  teach them what they don't know and love them unconditionally through the process. We all need someone and at times we can be that someone that needs the help or lends a hand. Sow what you need, but receive it too.
Picture
Ecclesiastes 4:10 (NIV) "If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."
Picture
So today go ahead and pray for the people in your life that are struggling or experiencing pain. But take it a step further. Ask God to show you what the next step is. Unsolicited advice is taken as criticism. So what do I do then? Ask the people in your life questions. When you ask them questions you are honoring their space and you may very well learn something about them that you didn't know. Active listening can help you--help them.  Remember love never fails.

I need a little help Lord....

John 14:26, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring into remembrance all that I have said to you."
Picture
There are so many things to remember in a day. I start my day off in the word and literally sometimes I forget what I read before I am on my way to work. Then for no reason at all I will be talking to someone and totally remember what I read, including the address. How does that happen? It certainly isn't the devil, and it's not all the vitamins I take. It is the promise of God to me, that the Holy Spirit will bring to my remembrance what I need--when I need it.

Here is the downside to the equation, you have to have something in you, for Him to bring to your remembrance. Nothing in, means nothing comes up. So everyday to the best of my ability, I read something from the Word of God. The Bible tells me that the Word is truth, and it is the truth, that sets me free. When the devil tries to trap me, or ensnare me, then Holy Spirit brings to my remembrance a truth, and as I meditate on that truth, I can see the lie for what it is.

Life is full of choices. If you don't like your life...make some new choices. We have all heard doing the same thing, and expecting a different result, is the definition of insanity. However, the Bible tells me if I keep my mind set on the things of God, I will be of a sound mind, and have perfect peace.
There is no greater peace than knowing God and knowing He keeps His Word. He is as close as the mention of His name.

The Holy Spirit will take care of the Orphans.

John 14:18 (NIV)I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."
Picture
In Rick Renner's book Gems II he did a great teaching on what the word orphan means. It means more than  just taking care of the fatherless and motherless it truly means those that have not been parented to the point that they are able to stay in their adult and make adult decisions. Orphans can not take the pressures of life and all the stress that those pressures can bring. All of us need someone to believe in us and encourage us in our ability to do what God has called us to do. Orphans have a hard time taking correction because they take it though the filter of rejection. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit our filter changes and we can begin to see things to which we were blinded to.
John 14:26 (NIV) "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

Staying Connected to the Holy Spirit

7/10/2017

For the past two Sundays I have been sharing on the subject of staying connected. Last week I spoke on how to stay connected to God and this week on how to stay connected to the Holy Spirit. You can listen to the messages at http://restorationchurchintl.org/audio-archive. We all have times in our lives when we feel disconnected and alone. But in the Word of God Jesus tells us He will never leave us orphaned. That's a huge deal when you understand what that word truly means. Orphan comes from a Greek word and it means without parents, but also it means without being properly equipped for life so unable to handle the stresses of life. Jesus is not just telling those of us without a home, or food, of a mom or a dad that He won't leave us that way but He is telling us He wants to be there and teach us what we don't know and give us wisdom for life.
Picture
The Word of God is not just a book we can read and then forget. The Bible is a book that when we truly connect with the author and the message, it has the power to change us. The Word of God can renew and regenerate our spirit, and our soul, and that inward change, will bring an outward manifestation to our body and our relationships.

Once we get connected the other connections that are good for us will get stronger. The connections that are sucking life out of us and causing us to live defeated, depressed and destitute will be severed because of the choices we will make. The Bible tells us that when we are weak He is strong. The power of God goes to work producing what the Word of God promises.

This week try reading just a few verses. Start reading in 1 John and then work your way through 1,2,3, John. Let the Word work on you. Then go out and do something for someone else. See if you don't feel better about yourself and about your situation.

God is a good God and He wants to bless you.

Be sure to be in God's Timing!!!!

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (KJV) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Picture
Roses only bloom at a certain season. In God's timing we must be in place and ready to do His will in His timing. We can not go pick roses in the middle of winter...it is not possible nor is it cost efficient. When God says move...MOVE! Don't miss your season.

I wanted to attach this video, but it's not on YouTube, so I'm including the link to the video so that you can see it!

Trying to be all things to all people.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (ESV)For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law.  To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law.  To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.  I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

John 17:15-18 (NIV) I am not asking that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.
Picture
In life we need acceptance. In life we need friends. In life we need to feel we belong. If however, we are wounded and hurt, abandoned and afraid we will do almost anything for that love and acceptance.

When we come to Christ and begin to read His word we may be a bit confused about what the word says. This is why we need teachers and preachers in our life. We need to come to church not for our religious duty but because the Word tells us to. (Hebrews 10:25)

When we come to church it is like taking a shower, eventually the Word will wash us clean. When we come to church it is like eating and, it may take a while to get well and regain our spiritual strength.

Compromising to get our needs met will only hurt ourselves and then, we will hurt others. I want to encourage you to be who God created YOU to be! The only way that you will find the true you--the person God created you to be is through the power of Jesus Christ.

Choose life! Deuteronomy 30:19 "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."

You never know what's in you.

You never know what's in you. When time is not what you've got and the enemy is breathing down your neck what's in you is about to show up.
Picture
I bought this movie at Walmart over the holidays and really tried to take a day off. The kind of day that you don't think about work. I don't do those because my work is about people...God's people. They are always in my heart and on my mind. However this movie for the duration of the film had me captivated. It made me realize that the strength of a human being is way beyond what you may think unless you've been in a real fight. A real fight is a fight for your life. I've seen those kind of people. A health issue that is life threatening and takes every ounce of strength you have and you win. This is the kind of movie this is. A young medical student does whatever it takes to win the battle of her life.

I give this movie a 10 out of 10. In Dr. Henry Cloud's book, "The Power of the Other" he tells the story of how the other people in our life give us strength. Other people in our life even if they have gone on to Heaven can bring us great strength as we recall the memories they have left with us.

I hope you enjoy the movie. There is no foul language or sex scenes. There is however lots of violence. Use your own discretion.
2 Corinthians 12:9-13 (MSG)7-10 Because of the extravagance of those revelations, and so I wouldn’t get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,
My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.

Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.
