Embrace Your Season

Ecclesiastes 3  (KJV)
3 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

Yesterday, I walked the same path my Grandmother walked with me as a child. Many things have changed. One, the path had a busy train that raced up and down the mountain. Now, the tracks are gone. We'd pass old company houses. They too are gone, as are the people who lived in those houses. Times have changed, but people are still the same. We want to belong. We want someone to hold our hand and tell us it's going to be alright. What I learned from my grandmother, I am teaching my grandsons. The time for learning has just begun for them, the time for teaching has begun for me. Seasons change. Embrace your season.
Picture
The paths we walk will remain until Jesus returns. We must remind those that walk after us of the things we were taught. God knew Abraham would teach his children and his children's children, so God imparted many truths to Abraham. God designed us to learn line upon line. We learn in layers. First we learn to add. Then, we move up, line upon line in our knowledge; always using what we learned previously until we arrive at Calculus. We can't jump from one truth about God to another, we must learn as we go. So, today we learned about snakes. How are we to approach a snake, or do we back away quickly? At this stage, "Tell an adult fast!" This is all the further we went for today.

It is not the time to explain the difference of snake head shapes, as my Grandpa taught me. No, that would mean it's okay to get a closer look! Nope, not today. But, there will come a day. As we walk this path in days, weeks, and years to come there will be plenty of opportunities to walk and talk, and learn from seasons gone by.
Picture
At the same time I am in the season of teaching my lil men, they are in the season of learning. The great thing about the way God designed us is, we can enjoy the season we are in, and still remember and look forward to the seasons ahead, and behind. I enjoyed learning through the eyes of a child, while in my new season of grand parenting. The squeals and amazement of their season reminded me of my past seasons and yet, I look ahead to my next season where I grow older, I gain new wisdom and one day, I meet God. God, no doubt will enjoy my squeals of excitement as I take in the new sights of heaven.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Enjoy the season you are in. Grab someone's hand today and walk the path of yesterday (yes, even during COVID19). Be the safe place for someone. Be the one who knows the answers, and share with humility. Don't judge. Help the ones you walk with discover the answers for themselves, and applaud them in the path they are walking. Allow others the privilege of telling you their story, one day they will ask you about yours; so model how to listen. Allow others to enjoy the season they are in. Seasons change but people...we still need people, we still want to belong, we still want to hold hands.

Matthew 26:28 (NKJV)
"For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

1 Corinthians 16:14

“Do everything in love."
Picture
On 7 December 1988 a devastating earthquake in northern Armenia killed 25,000 and left hundreds of thousands homeless in the Soviet republic. The 6.8 magnitude quake affected an area 80km (50 miles) in diameter. The quake struck at 11:41AM local time when children were at school and most adults were at work. Having been to Armenia recently, I can see by the aftermath how this story below would have occurred.

In his book called, “Bold Love,” Max Lucado tells the story about a mother and her four-year-old daughter who were trapped beneath tons of collapsed concrete and steel after the worst earthquake in the history of Soviet Armenia in 1988. In the darkness, the mom heard her child cry out, “Mommy, I’m so thirsty. I want a drink. Mommy, I need a drink. Please give me something.”

But there was nothing for Susanna to give. She was trapped flat on her back. Feeling around in the darkness, she found a jar of blackberry jam and gave the entire jar to her daughter to eat. It was gone by the second day. “Mommy, I’m so thirsty.” Susanna knew she would die, but she wanted her daughter to live. She found a dress and made a bed for her daughter. Though it was bitter cold, she took off her stockings and wrapped them around the child to keep her warm. The two were trapped for eight days.

Because of the darkness, Susanna lost track of time. Because of the cold, she lost the feeling in her fingers and toes. Because of her inability to move, she lost hope. A merciful sleep occasionally freed her from the horror of her entombment, but the sleep would be brief. Something always awakened her: the cold, the hunger, or most often, the voice of her daughter. “Mommy, I’m thirsty.”

At some point in that eternal night, Susanna had an idea. “I had no water, no fruit juice, no liquids. It was then that I remembered I had my own blood.” Her groping hand, numb from the cold, found a piece of shattered glass. She sliced open her left index finger and gave it to her daughter to suck. The drops of blood weren’t enough. “Please, Mommy, some more. Cut another finger.” Susanna has no idea how many times she cut herself. She only knows that if she hadn’t, her daughter would have died. Her blood was her daughter’s only hope.

That’s love in action. And that’s the love that Jesus has for each one of us when He spilled out His blood to quench the cry of our sins. Love ultimately isn’t about us; love is about Him!
Picture
I am by no means saying for any of us to do, what this women did, though I commend her for such an unselfish act of love. I am acutely aware of what Jesus did for me. My sins cried, "I thirst." Jesus said, "drink." The unselfish act of satisfying all of our thirst is shown on the cross. "I wasn't even born yet," you say. Well, that makes it all the more significant. Jesus died to satisfy sin even before you were born, knowing your condition would demand a ransom. "What would Jesus do?", you may ask? "He would love first", this is what He would do--and did.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Today, practice loving first. Today, practice sacrificial love. Today, give what you've got. Today, think about what you have, that can be poured out for others. You and I have today. No one is promised tomorrow. Love is an action.

Find your roar~no longer a slave.

Hebrews 11:23 NKJV
"By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command."
Picture
Before Moses was born, Pharaoh of Egypt decided that every male child, born to a Hebrew woman, was to be thrown into the Nile. This decree, one of Satan’s early efforts to prevent the birth of the Messiah by attacking the Jewish race, must have been a tremendous test of Amram and Jochebed’s faith. Their little boy, who was destined to rule the Israelites, was born, like Christ, with a great red dragon waiting to devour him the moment he was born.

Few women have had to raise a family in more difficult circumstances. The fact that a Moses, a Miriam, and an Aaron could come from a slave hut on the Nile says much about Jochebed’s influence. I see Jochebed as a great lioness. As a matter of fact she is symbolic of God. Her name means "His Glory" and just as God gave His Son Jesus to be a deliverer, Jochebed gives Moses to go and live in another kingdom; so he can return and set His people free and be their deliverer.
Picture
Think how hard it must have been for Jochebed. But God, watched over what she released into His hands and saw fit, that what she released was returned to her. Moses was drawn out of the nile and returned to his mother for approximately seven years. Weaning in that culture lasted much longer. God even paid for her to raise her own child. When we are in the will of God, God pays the bill. But then, she must release him a second time.

Look with me at the symbolism. God's word is full of secret treasures, if we will just dig for them. God will release Jesus to earth a second time. Moses had to fight an Egyptian, a symbol of Satan and Jesus will fight satan. Moses returned to his Hebrew brothers and delivered them. Jesus is returning for us, His brethren and deliver us to our Promised Land.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Never be afraid to release what is in your hand to God. If it is a wayward child, the tithe, a promise, it does not matter; God is able to take care of what we give Him and in the right time return to us what we need most. Jochebed released a son, but in turn received a deliverer. She released what she produced and found what she was promised. We can never out give God. We can never love God more than He loves us. Trust God. Find your roar. Refuse to fear the kings of this world. The battle against the great red dragon has already been won. Find your roar. You are no longer a slave.

Tying up loose ends of a frayed life.

5/11/2020

Definition: tie-up-loose-ends
(idiomatic) To deal with the minor consequences of a previous action; to tidy up, finish, or complete.

Picture
This week, I'd like to share with you what I learned from the story of Jochebed. After studying her and her "chapter one" if you will, I have learned many things, one of which is Jochebed is symbolic of God. She is a picture of our creator. The mandate on her life was to raise a deliverer. God entrusted her with a son, a son she would have to birth and then let go of, with the hope that one day would return to her. God the Father had to birth a son on this earth and then, let him go of Him to go live in another house (the earth the house of satan); believing that one day Jesus would return home to where He belonged, to His Father. Jochebed waits for her little boy Moses, now a man to come home and deliver her; whom once she delivered.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Take some time today and listen to this message and allow God to speak to your heart. Ask yourself, "What has God asked me to let go of? What am I on this earth to do? Do I have the faith to tie up loose ends in my life, knowing God will help me make something beautiful of a frayed life?"

Finding hope in hard seasons.

Lamentations 3:22-23
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness."
Picture
God reminds us of this powerful promise in His word that offers peace to our hearts in hard seasons. It was written for His people when times were very difficult. It gives us great hope in the battles we face today, like rays of light breaking through the darkest night.

For just as sure as the sun comes up every morning, we can be confident that His mercies never end. They are never based on how good we are, but only on His steadfast character. His compassion towards us is fresh every morning, and each day is a gift straight from His hand. We can trust His heart for us.

I can be exhausted at night, my body hurting, my mind spent, but after a good night sleep I awake fresh and new; ready to begin again. God is so good. His mercies are new every morning. If you are struggling, sometimes a good night sleep is all you need to get a perspective change. He is faithful to meet you with a new morning.

Picture
"Praise the Lord, O my soul, ...who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your life with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. ... The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. ... for as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him, as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgression from us. ..." (Psalm 103:2-5, 9, 11-12)
Picture
ACTION STEP: No matter what we face today, God’s promises stand true. In hard seasons, it may seem easier to complain about everything than to offer God praise. But there is great power in choosing to set our hearts and minds on Christ; offering Him praise for who He is and how He’s at work in our lives. He redeems us from the pit. He satisfies us with good things and renews us. Remembering God’s promises, and choosing to praise Him and trust His Sovereignty, are the first step towards finding hope in the hard seasons.

What's essential to you?

5/7/2020

What is essential to you? My husband is a prepper. Well, maybe not in the sense of an off the grid kinda guy, but never-the-less he prepares. So, when COVID19 was sneaking in he asks me what I thought we needed. I gave him a list of all the essentials. Then, when COVID19 came upon us and we were about to go into lockdown within 24 hours, my list changed. It got personal. I no longer just thought about eggs and toilet paper, I thought about me. What did I need. Can I tell you from that moment, to this moment weeks later, the list has changed. I don't need nearly what I thought I needed. I just need the essentials. This brought me to researching what are the essentials for living? I am what do I need to live the life Christ purchased for me. It came down to five basic needs.
Picture
As a God-class spirit being my needs differ from much of the world. Food, water and shelter are not the only essentials for me to fulfill my purpose on this earth. I need more than this if I am to follow the plan God has for my life. I need people in my life. I am not to live life alone. That doesn't mean we all have to marry, but we do have to have relationships. Relationships reveal us to us, not just  reveal us to others. God has a plan for our life. You and I are His Masterpiece. We just need to plug into the right source. You are not a mistake. God has a plan for you.

ACTION STEP: Take some time today and watch this video, and fill out this little Sermon Note Helper. Do some soul searching and get ready for your Re-Entry into the Family of God at the house of God, as soon as this quarantine is over. You will want to be in the best Spiritual Shape of your life.

THE FIVE ESSENTIALS OF LIFE1.  I NEED ____________________ TO ____________________
“Even youth grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength.  They will mount up with wings like eagles.  They will run and not get tired.  They will walk and not become weary.”  Isa. 40:30-31 (NASB)
“Be still, and know that I am God.”  Ps. 46:10 (NIV)
2.  I NEED ____________________ TO ____________________

“God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone…’”  Genesis 2:18  (niv)
“Two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together.  If one falls down, the other can help him up.”  Eccl. 4:9-10a (NCV)
“Let us not neglect our meeting together…”  Heb. 10:24-25 (NLT)
3.  I NEED ____________________ TO ____________________
“I am a pilgrim here on earth; I need a map – and Your commands are my chart and guide.”  Ps. 119:19 (LB)
“Everyone who hears My words and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock.”  Matt. 7:24 (NCV)
4.  I NEED A ____________________ TO ____________________
“God has made us what we are, in Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing.”  Eph. 2:10 (NCV)
“God gives us many kind of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all.  There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving.”  1 Cor. 12:4-5 (LB)
5.  I NEED A ____________________ TO ____________________
“The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me – to tell people the Good News about God’s grace.”  Acts. 20:24 (NCV)
“The thing you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what God wants.  Then all these other things you need will be given to you.”  Matt. 6:33 (NCV)
“Jesus has the power of God.  His power has given us everything we need to live and to serve God.  We have these things because we know Him.”  2 Peter 1:3 (ICB)

Listen and Silent are spelled with the same letters.

2 Corinthians 10:12-16 (KJV)
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise."
Picture
We have all been talking, a lot more on the phone. This can make communication difficult to say the least. We wonder if we got cut off when in reality the other person was just listening. We ask, "Are you still there?" This happens frequently when I am driving. I never know whether I am driving through a dead spot and lost the person, or they are still on the phone.

This happens most, when we I am busy or distracted. If I were sitting in my home and listening, not doing other things I would have more confidence in the fact that the other person is still there, and that they are tuned in to what I am sharing. I dare to say, that right now many of us are tuned in to the voice of God more than we have been for a long time. Why? Because there are not a lot of distractions. We are not running all over the place with no time to reflect. We are if you will, a captive audience. Many times God will take what the devil meant for evil and work it for our good.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Don't waste this time that you have been given. I know it may seem like something has been taken, but remember God has a way of turning things around. We see much clearer in hindsight than foresight. Take an account. What has got your attention? Are you tuned in or tuned out? Are you listening to the right voices or the wrong voices? Are you filtering what you are hearing through the Word of God? If not? Why not? Who or what has your attention? Usually, what has our attention--has our affection. Just because God is silent does not mean He is not listening, perhaps He wants to get our full attention. In order to fully listen, we must remain silent. If God seems silent right now--keep on talking He is listening intently.

100% better but, not quite 100%

This quarantined has stopped me. Stopping is not in me. This time I didn't have a choice. Most of the time I work. That's what I do. I even make play work. I don't know how or why I do it, but fun things somehow turn into work. Well, that is what I have been doing all my life until the last six weeks. The last six weeks I have finished more books, wrote more cards and letters than ever, been on an over-load of social media such as Zoom, Podcast, Webinars, and whatever else is out there. But more recently I just wasn't feeling the energy I usually feel. No fever. No COVID19 symptoms just tired and not much stamina. I'd get up and do a little, then have to go sit down. Not me at all. Come to find out it was a tooth as I mentioned in yesterdays Blog. But, you know what I learned? We don't appreciate health and well-being until we don't have it. That tooth had hurt with temperature change and chewing on things for well over a year (maybe two). I know right? All along my energy levels kept decreasing, it was a "Frog in the Kettle" syndrome. Well, glad to say I hoped out! The epiphany was that because the energy wane was overtime, I just put up with it. Why? Because I was too busy to think about it.
Picture
Our spiritual health can be much the same. We can let the fire we once had for God dwindle down inside of us over time. We can slowly be dying. Once, you couldn't stop reading, so you dashed through a thirty-day devotional in a week. Once you pulled all-nighter prayer, now you go several days without praying. Once praise and worship music was playing all the time. Now, it's the TV blaring or worst yet secular music. Now, is the time to get yourself spiritually at 100%.
Picture
I am not upset at all about what has transpired, I "Trust God" as I shared yesterday. I am not wasting a crisis. I am learning. I am learning more about myself and people. I am sure we will look back on COVID19 with various memories, but we will not forget, and we will forever be changed.

Many struggled with getting out of bed and going to church. Church was optional. "Let's stay home and eat pancakes." Now, many can't wait to get back to the building that was once an option and is now forbidden. Those that used to say, "Well, I would read if I had time. I would have been there, but I got busy."  I do not think these words will be uttered by those that love the Lord, and love being a part of His Body anytime soon.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Time to take an inventory of your spiritual condition? Are you still as energized about your time with Him as you once were? What is your spiritual energy level? Rate yourself from 1 to 10. Remember the Lord dislikes lukewarm. Get up and take control of your health. There is only one you. Take time to take care of yourself. Do what you need to do to get up and get back on track. Go for 100% and don't settle for anything else. Don't allow yourself to put up with a lukewarm spiritual condition.
Picture
Nehemiah 8:10
Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Exodus 15:2
The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.

Trust God

No one likes to put their stuff out there, myself included. This quarantine has been rough, but in ways I would have never expected. I have had all my old tooth fillings go bad. That means teeth ground and filled. Then, an infected tooth. Today, at 8AM a Root Canal, and in the mean time went into anaphylactic shock due to an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. That, all in less than 3 weeks of this COVID19. That being said, this is gonna be short and sweet. Trust God!
Picture
I was blessed. I had just asked someone to come over and go for a walk with me. I had ingested 875 mg antibiotic approximately a half an hour before she arrived. When she arrived I felt light headed and a bit nauseous. So, I thought I would eat and feel better. Well, the next thing I know my palms of my hands started really itching and swelling. Then, my tongue and throat started swelling. Then, I felt like my head was shrinking and my feet started getting really hot and itchy. The next thing I knew I was covered in hives and looked like a tomato. (I did see what I would look like with lip injections--not bad.) However, I am grateful for a friend that literally saved my life. She took me past a Dollar General and gave me liquid Benadryl, she knew I'd have a hard time swallowing and rushed me to urgent care where they met me, and administered a shot and then another one. I was going to feel worse, but I would get better. I liked the get better part. I am a little over 36 hours from the onslaught from hell. But, I am on the other side and for that I am grateful.
Picture
At my scariest point I was alone. My friend had left the room to get my husband and I relapsed. I yelled for the nurse that it was getting bad again and within minutes she came back with another injection and said, "I need to give you this." I said, "Can I wait and ask my husband?" She said, "No this is life or death I have to give it to you now." At that moment knowing I could go into cardiac arrest at best I just closed my eyes and cried out to my Jesus, and let her insert the needle. Was I scared? Yes. Was I alone? No, but I felt like I was. Feelings lie.

God sent a friend to my house while I was alone at just the right moment. Med Express met me at the door masked and ready to get me into a private room. They kept me masked. They keep me safe. God had a team ready to save me.
Picture
ACTION STEP: It has been some of the roughest hours of my life, "But God." Thanking God I was in America not out of the country. Thanking God that I had medical help. Thanking God that I had people to take care of me. That I am alive. Life is fragile. Use it well. Take care of yourself. Trust people to help you. Listen to them. I argued about everything because I'm stubborn. I always think I can shake things off and then, I wait too long. Thank God that my friend, my Dentist, my husband and the healthcare workers over rode my stubbornness. Lesson learned. Trust God. Trust the people that love you. Trust that God has got you right in the middle of your crisis, because He does.

Messy hands.

5/1/2020

Seems, I often learn from my lil men, affectionately known as my grandsons. I teach them, and when I do, I often hear the Lord speak to me. Now, that my daughter is nearing the delivery of our first baby-belly grandchild, I am keeping the lil men once a week. I plan the day, and the activities, long before their arrival. That was something the Lord spoke to me about. The Lord said, "I plan for the arrival of all my children long before they arrive on earth. I have detailed plans and a purpose for each one of them." If you're like me? You never forget the things the Lord shares with you. God planned this day. God planned each of us. You and I are here, right now by design.
Picture
Lessons come quick with these lil men. We have been working on math and science while quarantined. One way we do this is baking. These lil men are getting quite good at making bread, the un-kneaded kind. Well, since we have been doing drive-byes due to the COVID19 that is. I decided we would make small loaves of bread. This is a much more messy endeavor to take on. Both lil men had to grease up their hands to punch the risen bread back down, and roll it into rectangles, and then roll it back into smaller rolls for loaves. Neither liked having "messy", greasy hands. Both wanted to wash the grease off as soon as they put it on. It was only after a lesson in handling dough that they both realized the need for messy hands. Without greased hands, the dough couldn't be worked. If you tried to knead it, well it would just stick to you. Try to roll it with a rolling pin and it went everywhere--but where is was supposed to go. A lesson in "Why" was needed before we proceeded.
Picture
"When I went to work on mankind, I had to get my hands messy too." I held back the water in my eyes so my lil men wouldn't think I was hurt. "Jesus", I said, "Thanks for choosing to have messy hands, so you could work on all of us." My lil men went to work for ten minutes on that dough until it, finally changed. My epiphany, "The dough became what it was destined to be, then He was broken for you and for me."
Picture
ACTION STEP: Go ahead and get your hands messy. Go ahead and get involved in that unsaved loved one's life. Go ahead and tell that person, that messy thing that happened years ago, and that you are sorry. Go ahead and read the Bible. Find out what a mess we were, before Jesus came to get His hands messy. Go ahead and turn to Jesus with everything that you've been trying to make--come out right. He is an ever present help in times of trouble. Jesus is never afraid of getting in our mess so He can make something beautiful of our life. Jesus wants to make us into something He can hold in His hands, and give to the world, that was His plan long before we got here.
